Economic Research at Eesti Pank

Research at Eesti Pank supports the main functions of the bank. Economic research helps the central bank fulfil the obligations set upon it by law, supports analysis and forecasts, is used in discussion about policy and informs the public about the development of the economy and financial markets.

Research is carried out mostly in the Research Department, although some research is also done in other departments. Research is conducted according to the strategic research programme and the annual plan. The main research areas are the economic convergence of the countries joining the European Union, the functioning of the Estonian monetary and financial systems as well as developing the models necessary for monitoring, analyzing and forecasting them. In addition, topical issues in general economic policy discussions are also reflected in our research activity.

Generally, the results of the research are published in the Working Papers Series of Eesti Pank, but they may also appear in journals, conference proceedings, etc.

In addition to conducting economic research the Research Department organises open seminars and co-operates with the research departments of other central banks, research institutions and universities.

The Research Department offers visiting researchers to conduct research for a period of 2 to 6 months and also co-ordinates the internship program in Eesti Pank.
