Stanislav Kalinin wins the design competition for the Vancouver Winter Olympics collector coin

On Thursday the panel convened by Eesti Pank declared the winner of the design competition for the collector coin dedicated to the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games a freelance designer and student of Graphic Design at the Estonian Academy of Arts Stanislav Kalinin.

The design competition for the silver collector coin with the nominal value of 10 kroons was won by Stanislav Kalinin whose design bears the name "Skiers abstract". The second place went to the artists Tiiu Prisko and Mati Veermets for their design "Alaver" and the third place was won by Kärri Jürisson, a third-year Graphic Design student at the Estonian Academy of Arts, for the design "liugleja".

After the coins are issued, the winner will be paid the prize money of 30,000 kroons. The winner of the second place will receive 20,000 kroons and that of the third place 15,000 kroons. If a design has several authors, they will have to share the prize money.

After approval by the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank the design will be published on the web site of Eesti Pank.

Eesti Pank received a total of 69 designs for the design competition for the collector coin dedicated to the XXI Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver. The coin will be issued at the beginning of 2010.

The designs and their compliance with requirements were assessed by a 7-member panel convened by Eesti Pank. The panel included representatives of the central bank, as well as from the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank, from the Estonian Artists' Association and the Estonian Olympic Committee. The collector coin design competition's technical, participation and assessment conditions and criteria are available on the web site of Eesti Pank.
