Today, 26 January, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank JAAN MÄNNIK
submitted to the Riigikogu his proposal regarding the appointment to office of candidates for the Supervisory
Board of Eesti Pank.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the central bank made a proposal
to appoint the following persons as members of the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank: member of the Riigikogu Kalev
Kallo, professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Tartu Irene Kull, member of the
Riigikogu Jürgen Ligi, professor in the Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration at
Tallinn University of Technology Enn Listra, public figure and economist Tõnis Palts, public
figure and economist Liina Tõnisson and professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business administration at
the University of Tartu Urmas Varblane.
"The new composition of the Supervisory
Board consists of experienced politicians. The candidates were selected in cooperation with the major fractions of the Riigikogu.
In addition, member candidates include economic and law experts from the University of Tartu and the Tallinn University of Technology.
A quarter of the candidates are female," Jaan Männik commented on the choice of the candidates.
The candidates have
either passed security check or already have access to state secrets by virtue of office.
The authority of the current Supervisory
Board of Eesti Pank will terminate on 17 February 2009.
